The Chevrolet Silverado is an iconic pickup truck with loyal fans all across the country. The latest incarnation is packed with all of the features that fans have come to know and love. Here's what you need to know about the new Silverado.
A Bit of History
The Silverado first appeared on the market back in 1999. At the time, pickup trucks were mostly used for work applications, but a shift was beginning to take place. More and more people were buying trucks for personal use. With the Silverado, Chevy aimed to blur the lines between work and play with a truck that was adept at both. Comfort and drivability took priority over towing and hauling capabilities for consumers, and the Silverado delivered in this regard. The brand has continued to refine the truck over the years, and the 2018 version is better than ever.
Power and Performance
The base model gets a 4.3-liter V-6 Flex-Fuel engine that packs in 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. V-8 engines are also available at higher price levels. Two-wheel drive comes standard, but four-wheel drive options are also available. The base model can tow up to 7,600 pounds, and the highest model can tow 12,500. All models feature a separate Tow/Haul Mode to improve engine performance when pulling heavy weights.
Comfort and Convenience
The 2018 Silverado comes in eight distinct trim levels, each offering varying levels of cabin comfort. For those looking for a truck just for work, the Work Truck trim will be ideal, but for those who are seeking a commuter vehicle, the comfort of the Work Truck may be a bit lacking. Climate control, cruise control, and Teen Driver technology come standard, and numerous additional options are available at the higher trim levels. Heated side-view mirrors, touchscreen consoles, and built-in Wi-Fi are among the available options. Navigation systems, leather seats and steering wheel wraps, rear-vision cameras, and Bluetooth technology are also available.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is one of the most respected voices in the industry and awarded the 2018 Silverado five stars, the highest possible designation. It offers a variety of optional driver assist features to keep you and your passengers as safe as possible while on the road. Lane departure assistance, braking assistance, and parking assistance are among the available options, along with several other features.
